Washington, D.C.—Iowa Congressman Steve King will travel to Iraq this weekend on a congressional delegation to meet with troops and assess the current situation on the ground in that country. “While the major combat in Iraq may be over, the peace is not yet won,” said King. “As a member of Congress, I believe it is important to get a first-hand look at the progress that is being made, and hear directly from our troops how things are going and what more they need to continue the peace process.” King will have the opportunity to meet with troops deployed from Iowa’s Fifth Congressional District. He is the first Member of the Iowa delegation to travel to Iraq since the start of the war. The delegation is being organized by the House Armed Services Committee, led by Congressman Mac Thornberry of Texas. The CODEL is expected to depart for Iraq Friday and return to the United States early next week. To arrange for a post-trip interview, please contact Melissa McKay at (202) 225-4426. |
