Wednesday, May 09, 2012
Washington, DC - Congressman Steve King released the following statement today after voting in support of legislation to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act. The vote was held last night in the House Judiciary Committee. King is a senior member of the Committee. The Committee's approval of the legislation sets up consideration of the measure as soon as next week on the House floor.
"I was pleased to support this important legislation in the Judiciary Committee," said King. "As a Committee, we debated several amendments to the underlying bill and approved a number of changes that improve and strengthen it. The legislation will ensure that we continue to have a robust system of enforcement and support in place to address the issues of domestic violence and sexual assault in the United States. I look forward to taking this up on the House floor in the near future."
