King’s Strong Support for Renewable Fuels Earns “Fueling Growth” Award
Washington DC- Congressman Steve King releases this statement and photograph following the presentation to him this afternoon of the “Fueling Growth” Award by representatives of Growth Energy. Growth Energy is the nation’s leading biofuel trade association, and the “Fueling Growth” award is the highest honor given by the organization to Congressional biofuel advocates.
Congressman Steve King receives his 2019 Fueling Growth Award from Emily Skor, CEO of Growth Energy.
“The renewable fuels industry is part of the lifeblood of the 4th Congressional District, and I am honored to have received the ‘Fueling Growth’ award for my ongoing work in support of biofuels,” said King. “We have had important victories for ethanol this year, including the President’s decision to direct the creation of a rule allowing the year-round sale of E15. This is something I personally asked him to do, and I am grateful to President Trump for opening the calendar to increased summer sales of ethanol.
On the other hand, the EPA’s continued use of small refinery exemptions (SRE’s) directly reduces RFS volume requirements. To protect and preserve the RFS, I have introduced two bills that seek to recover gallons lost due to waivers, and I have asked Administrator Wheeler to end the practice of granting SRE’s to unqualified refiners. I am also encouraging President Trump to take bolder steps in defense of biofuels on behalf of Corn Belt producers. We cannot allow SRE’s to devastate the ethanol industry or to offset the important gains we are making.”
King has established himself as the leading proponent of Renewable Fuels in Congress, and his strong record on renewable fuels includes several recent, important actions:
- In June of this year, King introduced two bills (HR 3410 and HR 3411) to protect the RFS volume requirements from Small Refinery Exemptions.
- In May of this year, King wrote EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler asking that he end the practice of granting Small Refinery Exemptions (SRE’s) to large and unqualified refiners.
- King met with President Trump one-on-one in the Oval Office to ask the President to adopt a rule allowing the year round sale of E15. President Trump announced the rule only two days later.
- In 2016, King testified before the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power about the importance of maintaining the Renewable Fuels Standard.
