King Votes for DOD Appropriations Act
Washington, DC- Congressman Steve King released the following statement after voting for H.R. 2397, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, FY 2014:
"One of my major responsibilities as a member of Congress is to ensure the support of our military in their safeguarding of our nation and our liberty," said King. "The legislation I voted for today will protect our troops in the field by increasing funding for weapons, including $1.5 billion for equipment for the National Guard. The DOD Appropriations Act will sustain and reward our servicemen and women by authorizing a 1.8 percent pay raise, instead of the one percent pay raise requested by the President. It also dedicates $33.6 billion in funding to help our heroes transition when they return home, while making smart cuts from defense spending that will not affect military effectiveness. I respect and honor the men and women who serve in our military, and know that my vote today will assist in their safety and security."
